Graffiti Show

The best show i have seen, i havent seen that many, but the gallery looks amazing. Graffiti artists have so much talent it is ridiculous. They are pretty funny, those writers. It seems that if it is not Graffiti art they are over it. Not all are like this, but some are. I think they dont realize they have the same closed mindedness that other artists have towards graffiti and its artness.

Whatever. Go to the show in Haleiwa tonight and check it out. you wont be dissapointed. Im not, and Im the Gallerys biggest critic.

Graffiti's sort of its own animal. It walks a fine line between art and destruction, and within the greater scope of art and crime there's nothing quite like it. There's something that attracts certain kinds of people to it; often, its best practioners are neither artists nor simply vandals, with a tiny handful of exceptional exceptions. And often, with some irony, the worst graffiti artists make fantastic art, provided they can move beyond the graffiti aesthetic. But sadly, many are stuck in the street art rut, which is usually a really watered down form of graffiti. Kind of like taking the best hooks from a song and making your own song only out of those hooks. There's so much that's possible for graffiti, for street art, but it's often not used to its full potential.
